John
"Goobu"
John purchased his first Porsche, a 1986 951, in the summer of 2000 "The Mange". After fixing a few "minor" problems the previous owner passed on, "The Mange" has been tearing up the NNJR Driver's Ed events and has helped John to quickly gain the respect of his driving peers.
"Watkins Glen 2001 - My first event"
After purchasing "The Mange", John started to drive it as a daily driver over his brand new Audi S4. So by late fall, John decided to sell the S4 and to look for a 911. The process was tedious as he could not make up his mind as to what year or model he wanted.
Finally in mid Nov of 2001, his faithful friend, Rob Fusi, sent him a link to a beautiful Red on Black 1997 993 C2S that was for sale in RI. That weekend Charlie flew John to Rhode Island to test drive the car...little did they know he would be driving it home that night. Within a few days it earned its new name - FAB (Fast Ass Bastard).

Update 11/2003:
With much regret, John has decided to sell FAB. With great opposition for the GTC John has put the car up for sale and currently awaits a buyer. The Mange is used both as a daily driver and as a track.
Update 3/2003:
Well it is late winter now or early spring as we drivers like to think and track season is right around the corner. My car situation seems to change on a weekly basis. I sold FAB to a local buyer in 2/2003. The day I handed the keys over to her new owner was an extremely sad day in the Goobu household. I know she will be well pampered at her new home and will spend most of her life in an unheated garage. Most Porsche owners will say that is no way for a 911 to be treated, some would say that borders on Porsche abuse!
Well before selling FAB, the change to my track car situation was put in motion. I purchased Slow White, a 2.1 liter 1971 914 from Colin. He had been trying to sell her for over a year and I finally wore him down on price and I took possession 11/2002. I am awaiting my QQ registration and look forward to some local street driving. I took her through the gauntlet at Road Atlanta in January (so did Colin and she is now a 4 speed). It didn't take long to figure out there was a huge difference between my 265 HP 951 and this "100 hp" 914. My hope is that she will force me to become a better driver as I will not be able to use horse power as a crutch any more.
"Slow White - Tucked away for the winter - 2/2003"
So, “What is to become of 'The Mange'?” you ask. The answer to
that question is uncertain and only time will tell. I drive her daily, but she
has been very unfriendly in the snow, so this winter has been interesting (good
thing I have not left the house much). Unfortunately I see her going down the
road of fallen heroes, but once again, only time will tell.
