John purchased his first Porsche in the Spring of 1998. She was a blue metallic 1987 944 Turbo, also known as factory designation 951. One of the main reasons for purchasing the Porsche marque was the Porsche Club of America and the strong Northern New Jersey Region. Ags immediately began the “no turning back” route of auto-crossing and drivers education events that the club offered.

Although he loved the car, he was less than thrilled with dealing with the turbo lag and decided that a move to the non-turbo and more powerful 968 was in order. In November 1998, Shawn purchased the 951 and she was never the same (see Shawn’s story). Ags found a gorgeous black 968 for an incredible price in January 1999 and was right back into autocrossing and drivers education.

Facing a supportive girlfriend of 4 years and daunting financial debt from graduate school, Ags sold the 968 in November of 1999 in order to purchase his then girlfriend’s engagement ring. While she accepted his proposal, it was conditional on the purchase of his dream car within 2 years: an air cooled 911.

In December 2001, that same girl made good on her promise as they purchased a beautiful 1995 911, factory designation 993, from Don Rosen Imports in Pennsylvania. Ags was thrilled to be “back in it” and auto-crossing and tracking once again. Ags, his wife, and the 993 now live in Central Jersey.
